  8. Subject: problem on installing tex on a sparc 10

  11. Hi,
  12.     I tried to install tex on a sparc 10 running sunos 4.1.3 but
  13. did not succeed.

  15.     I obtain from ctan the following files:
  16. lib-6.4.tar, web-6.1.tar, web2c-6.1.tar, pk300.zip.

  18. Everything is set up according to their defaults. For example,
  19. texmf is put in /usr/local/lib. Since I did not need to change
  20. the defaults, I tried the following:

  22. 1. configure
  23. this gives no problem.
  24.  
  25. 2. make
  26. here I encounter the error messages:

  40. I am not very familiar with tex (I intended to learn it after the
  41. installation is complete). So I keep hitting return keys many times
  42. until this process is finished.

  44. 3. make install
  45. here same problem happens.

  47. 4. cd kpathsea
  48.    make install
  49.  
  50. After this, I tried the command
  51.     latex gentle-introduction.tex
  52. and I obtained the error message:

  54. This is TeX, Version 3.1415 (C version 6.1)
  55. I can't find the default format file!
